Joe T. Venneman, 76, of Spearman, Hansford County, Texas, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023 in Spearman, Texas. There will be a come and go visitation from 3:00-5:30 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spearman. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spearman, and a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spearman. Burial will follow the Rosary at Hansford Cemetery in Spearman, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. of Spearman, Texas.
Joe T. was born in Amarillo, Texas on June 3, 1946 to Fanny (Sparks) & John Venneman.
Joe T.’s great grandparents settled in Hansford County in 1904 where he grew up working the farm in the summers & attending catholic schools in Amarillo during the school year. He graduated in 1964 from Price College, an all-boys Catholic high school. He then went on to attend West Texas State University, now WTA&M. He enjoyed his college years as an ATO & it is there where he met his beautiful bride of 53 years Linda Sims. He graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. Joe T. and Linda married in 1970 and have resided on the Venneman Ranch ever since where they reared three children Klint, Holly, and Kim. Over the past 53 years, Joe T. has dedicated his life to his family, faith and his love for farming and ranching. He had such a passion for his cow/calf operation and had many memorable brandings with friends from around the county. Linda was the true “Pioneer Woman” and would cook huge meals for all the cowboys who came to help. Linda and Joe T. were such a beautiful team with a love story of a lifetime.
Joe T. served as a Hansford County Commissioner for 36 years. He was one of the originating directors of First National Bank Spearman that opened in 1985. He served as a full director for 38 years.
Joe T. is preceded in death by his parents Fanny and John Venneman, sister Mary Venneman, granddaughter Morgan Ross and Son-in-law Justin Gifford. He is survived by his wife Linda, son Klint and wife Traci Venneman of Gruver, daughter Holly Gifford of Gruver, daughter Kim and husband Clint Cooper of Hamilton, TX. Grandchildren Alexx Lance, Kennedy Venneman; Gus, Joe T., Hattie and Mary Beth Gifford; Ben, Clementine, Anna Claire and Callahan Cooper; and sister Hattie Davis and family of Hooker, Oklahoma.
Memorials may be made to Hansford Hospice, Stationmaster’s House Museum, or your favorite charity.
