Francis Biles was born January 12th, 1939 in Clayton, New Mexico and died July 7th, 2023 at the age of 84. She grew up in rural Oklahoma with her sisters Peggy, Hazel, and Tommye, the daughter of J.C and Myrtle Whitley. Francis attended primary school in Kenton, Oklahoma, and high school in Edler, Colorado. At 17, she moved to Amarillo, Tx where she attended Draughon’s Business College, learned stenographic and typing skills, and went to work for the American Quarter Horse Association. During that time, she met Hoyt Biles, a Staff Sergeant with the US Air Force. They married shortly thereafter at the Wilson Ranch near Boise City, Oklahoma on February 15th, 1958. Their son Brent was born in Amarillo on April 24th, 1959. A year later, on April 20th Leann Biles was born in the back of car between Dumas, Texas and Amarillo, delivered by a truck driver who happened to be passing by. In her twenties and thirties, with her family, Francis traveled often to visit her parents on their ranch in Northeastern New Mexico. In later years, she spoke fondly of those times, precious memories, hymns and scriptures at the Furnish Canyon Church of Christ, gifts exchanged on Christmas mornings, and with little ones neatly dressed, egg hunting on Easter. Francis lived most of her life at 104 Wanda Dr. in Spearman, Texas. She enjoyed gardening, loved flowers, roses especially. She occupied her time quilting, read mysteries and novels about lawyers, collected depression glass and miniature owls, kept her home meticulously clean, and baked hundreds of thousands of cookies and loaves of banana nut bread for friends and family. Francis took pride in her career as a legal secretary. She worked for over five decades, first for a Spearman lawyer, T.D. Sansing, then later for two other local attorneys, Bob Pearson and John Hutchinson. Finally, Francis loved her church, her friends, Biblical lessons, potluck meals, hymns sang in four-part harmony, fellowship, and the comfort that a better place awaits those who remain steadfast in the Lord. Despite many changes and challenging times, Francis Anne Whitley Biles never lost her faith in God. Francis is survived by her two children, Brent Biles and Leann Carson, son-in-law Bill Carson, grandchildren Emily Burgner, Elizabeth Carson, Kate Stratton, and great-grandchildren Quincy and Eleanor Burgner, and Emma Stratton.
