Time to Vote: Spearman ISD Bond and School Board Election Set for May 3

April 29, 2025

By Suzanne Bellsnyder, Editor

Spearman residents will head to the polls on Saturday, May 3, to cast votes that will shape the future of Spearman ISD. Voters are being asked to decide on three separate bond propositions and to elect three new school board members from a field of six candidates.

What's on the Ballot?
The 2025 bond election includes three distinct propositions, each focused on specific priorities for the district:

  •  Proposition A ($1.2 million): Improves athletic facilities by resurfacing the high school track and building a new walkway around the football field. Estimated cost to taxpayers: $2.66 per year for a $122,000 home.
  •  Proposition B ($3.275 million): Addresses essential education needs like new transportation vehicles, resurfacing tennis courts, and replacing roofs at Spearman Junior High and Gus Birdwell Elementary. Estimated cost: $6.98 per year for a $122,000 home.
  • Proposition C ($5.1 million): Refinances existing Maintenance & Operations debt to save the district nearly $5.1 million long-term. Estimated cost: $30.78 per year for a $122,000 home.
If all three measures pass, the total projected increase would be approximately $40.42 annually per average homeowner. Each proposition will be voted on individually, giving residents the ability to support or reject each one separately.

Who's Running for School Board?
In addition to the bond measures, voters will also choose three trustees to help lead the district. The candidates, listed alphabetically, are:
 Stephen Batton
 Anne Marie Pearson
 Mike Pearson
 Rhett Renner

This election is an opportunity for citizens to have a direct say in the leadership and financial direction of Spearman ISD.
