A RED HOT CITY ELECTION

Present Mayor and City Council Re-Elected – Mayor James Nosed in by One Vote. In the midst of the excitement incident to the presence of the Demonstration Train with their numerous lectures, the free show at the Lyric, and other splendid entertainment, on Tuesday, April 3rd, the City pulled off an exciting election. C.W. Carson, Jr., the nominee for Mayor, of the mass meeting held on the evening of March 28th, concluded that he could not spare the time from his business to serve as Mayor, so declined to accept the job. This left no nominee for Mayor but the present Mayor, H.E. James, and Dr. Gibner, were entered in the race and the returns indicate that the two candidates developed practically the same voting strength during the day, as Mr. James was elected by one vote. It was a close race, and considerable interest was manifested along in the afternoon. The old board of councilmen were re-elected by good majorities, with the exception of Chas. Endicott, who retires in favor of Floyd Sumrall, a nominee of the mass meeting. E.L. Maupin was nominated for Marshall at the mass meeting, and was elected over Fred Wilbanks, whose name was placed on the ballot by petition. The election was held at the offices of McLain and McLain by Messrs. J.C. Livingston, M.L. McLain, and Bill Bradford.

NOTES FROM SPEARMAN SCHOOLS

Historical Club has Great Time Tuesday. The History classes needed some source books rather badly so they decided to earn some money to buy those books. An opportunity to make that money presented itself with April 3rd. They secured a part of the John L. Hays building on Main Street for that day and decided to sell almost anything hungry people might want. Every member of the did his share in making the affair a success, and a neat little sum was realized from the sale.

Mr. Davis with his accommodating and cheerful service has earned hundreds of friends while working at the drug store and will not be any different as his own boss. His friends all over the county are wishing Jesse the best of success in his new business venture. This newspaper officially joins other business houses in welcoming this new neighbor, and wishing him the success his pleasing personality and cheerful, accommodating methods deserve.
